Extending The Mission We Turn To A Mobile Classroom

BrainChampions.org is Building an educational bus to take out on educational trips

At BrainChampions.org we don't spend a lot of time sitting around.  This year was a busy one where we spoke at several classrooms and and 6 Camps where the message was taken to hundreds of Coaches and kids. We started Atalanta's Pride with Tracy Yatsko even while the amazing young woman from Pennsylvania took on the lobbying of a Statewide Concussion reform bill.  And in Oregon Ally Wallace went after the Coaching community in Portland and gained National attention as she got mandatory imPACT Baseline Concussion testing pushed through. Our ability to help is only funded by our time and resources.  Up until now BrainChampions.org has been funded by our founder.  Now we ask for your assistance in completing our mobile classroom project that we call "Building The Bus".  This vehicle had a glorious career as a custom shuttle bus before being bought and used as a Indie Band Bus where it earned its nick-name Bus Van Sant. Now we need your help to get Bus Van Sant back on … [Read more...]

The End Of The Road Is Just Ahead

There are few people reading this by now that do not know of the crisis facing this great game of ours.  This game, this killer of men and breaker of spirits, which so many millions love and celebrate every week in America.  Our youth are dying and our Heroes falling and yet do we say anything?  Or do we just smirk and write it off to bad luck.  It didn't happen to you right?  Not your kid.  Not your problem. But across America as the injuries mount and the death toll rises more and more fans and parents are crying out for change.  Because for those of us paying attention we must realize that this killer that is running wild in the game of football has come to our youth fields and our  Main Streets and our NFL Stadiums.  The Concussion and Brain Trauma Monster is ours...all of ours. The body count and number of broken men and boys is rising daily.  Concussion's and Traumatic Brain Injury suffered on and the practice field and during games seem to visit every region of … [Read more...]

Football Injuries Top Trauma-Related Deaths Among Young Athletes

Head and Neck Injuries Cause Death on The Football Field

Another study has been released and to no surprise it finds alarming statistics when it comes to the injury and death of high school football players. BrainChampions.org was the first group to cry out for help some three years ago on the issue of Second Impact Syndrome related deaths and permanent impairments. Now in this study Dr. Barry Maron among others are linking these and other neck and head injuries to significant trends that show that more and more High School football players are playing in the Danger Zone. A key finding, author Dr. Barry Maron said in an interview, was a worrisome number of prep football players who died of head and neck blows after they had already sustained concussions a few days to four weeks beforehand. Maron said it comes at a time of growing awareness about concussions, including the dangers of “second-impact syndrome.” Story is here: … [Read more...]

The Great Jim (James) Brown Say it All; The NCAA and NFL Are Hurting Players

The Great NFL Running back is known for telling it like it is.  That is something not to many people will do anymore.  Today he went public and came out against the NFL and in fact the NCAA for using their players as fodder for a money making machine. This is something we at BrainChampions.org have been clear on.  Football is a great sport full of risks and rewards.  But the facts are that the Billions of dollars being made are all going to our NFL owners, their stock holders, and the NCAA.  Not much of that is actually making it to the guys that are giving up their bodies so that we can all enjoy it. Our Nation is fanatical about the sport.  We know all about the "Assumption of Risk" theory that people are quick to quote about the fact that those who play know what they are getting into. That does not apply to kids 18 and under.  That is why we focus all our attentions there.  Having said that we realize that the kids who leave High School and move on to college … [Read more...]

Manning A Part Of The Problem: BrainChamps Calls Him Out

Kort Breckenridge After his Life saving Craniectomy

Today's revelations by NFL Star QB Payton Manning indicate he knowingly lowballs the NFL concussion baseline test.  He was smug and almost bragging in his statement.  And he is too ignorant to know any better. Manning has been raised by a Football legend who often seemed to always put the Football Glory of his sons first over anything. Said  Payton Manning: "They have these new (brain) tests we have to take. Before the season, you have to look at 20 pictures and turn the paper over and then try to draw those 20 pictures. And they do it with words, too. Twenty words, you flip it over, and try to write those 20 words. "Then, after a concussion, you take the same test and if you do worse than you did on the first test, you can't play. So I just try to do badly on the first test." (The Huddle)http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2011/04/peyton-manning-admits-to-tanking-nfls-baseline-concussion-test/1   That is the worst thing he could say.  And he … [Read more...]

YOUTH FOOTBALL EMERGENCY: Here is Why the NFL MUST ACT

youth-helmet-to-helmet

Good Friday all.  Ok.  we have talked about it at length and I am not going to stop. We can not have coaches allowing athletes in any Sport to put themselves in a position to be hurt. This is terrible.  But to be honest I have both seen this and lived this time and again. These two boys are tackling helmet to helmet and with the top of the head no less.  This coach has no business allowing this type of drill if these kids do not know what they are doing. These boys should not be in the drill because they clearly do not know how to tackle correctly. It takes weeks to develop proper technique in a young player and 80% of that can be done in a tackling progression drill from the ground up using dummies and pads. So Watch This and see what I am talking about: Now take this drill and times it by a hundred.  Then a thousand.  Then Ten Thousand.  Because across America this is happening all the time. These hits lead to issues both short and long term.  Both Kids … [Read more...]
