High School Player Dies in Scrimmage: Investigation Pending

Brain Champions and Team 7:15, all of our staff and founders, send our deepest sympathies out to the family of Brian Colvin of South Carolina. Brian passed away in a High School Football Scrimmage August 13th, 2010.  This loss is a big one and a brutal reminder of the dangers of America's game. An autopsy is pending in the death of 18-year-old senior Brian Colvin who was playing in the Chester County Football Jamboree in Chester, South Carolina. Brian collapsed according to the Coroner who said he  showed “seizure-like” symptoms on the field. Colvin was taken to Chester Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m. The coroner's office will conduct an autopsy. YOUTH FOOTBALL EMERGENCY: Here is Why the NFL MUST ACT

Good Friday all.  Ok.  we have talked about it at length and I am not going to stop. We can not have coaches allowing athletes in any Sport to put themselves in a position to be hurt. This is terrible.  But to be honest I have both seen this and lived this time and again. These two boys are tackling helmet to helmet and with the top of the head no less.  This coach has no business allowing this type of drill if these kids do not know what they are doing. These boys should not be in the drill because they clearly do not know how to tackle correctly. It takes weeks to develop proper technique in a young player and 80% of that can be done in a tackling progression drill from the ground up using dummies and pads. So Watch This and see what I am talking about: Now take this drill and times it by a hundred.  Then a thousand.  Then Ten Thousand.  Because across America this is happening all the time.
